Queen Street Village

2018 – Precinct Development

Lato Baia
Miami One

Queens Street Village is a $550 million retail, dining, entertainment and residential precinct. The 3.2 hectare development is being built in stages over a number of years. The scope of this project consisted of fifteen still and fourteen animated architectural visualisation renders. These renders were primarily focused on the first stage apartment complex but also included some of the adjacent retail precinct as well as a master plan aerial flyover.

Project

As the client already had renders of the shopping precinct from the architectural designers of the site, the video production team and I had several meetings with the client to discuss the look they wanted to achieve for the residential off the plan advertising material. The clients had strong ideas of what they wanted the renders to include. While discussing the inclusions and looking over the floor plans I was able to inform the clients of positions that would be visually appealing while also meeting their requirements. Throughout the project I coordinated with the clients and video production team to make sure the renders were progressing the way the clients had envisaged and that the render animations would integrate cohesively into the footage that was being shot for the marketing materials.

Practical

The location of the development and the heights that the renders needed to be at to showcase the best views, required that I coordinated a full day photo and video shoot with a professional drone pilot. I created an extensive shot list of heights, orientations, locations and times of day that I had to manage and convey to the drone pilot throughout the shoot. These drone photos covered the background plates for all of the renders, reflections in windows and objects as well as 360 degree panoramas showcasing the views from various floors of the apartment complex. I also completed a separate ground based photo and video shoot, capturing background plates for match moving and compositing in the apartment building along with the adjacent sections of the retail precinct.

Digital

The interiors were recreated using the plans from the architect, while the exteriors were built upon the existing CAD model. Fitting, paints, carpets, tiles and cabinetry materials were created based on a third photoshoot that I conducted in an example property that was finished using the same fittings and materials. The clients had plans for the types of furniture and layout that they wanted in the renders, this made the process of filling the interiors very collaborative. The photos from the drone shoot were composited into the backgrounds to complete the apartment renders, while the photos and videos from my independent shoot were composited so that the existing street appears in the foreground of the retail precinct renders.
