Drift Syndicate was a national level drift team that competed in some of the largest drifting events around Australia, including the Top Gear Festival and WTAC. Drift Syndicate has had several notable drivers including V8 Supercar champion Shane Van Gisbergen and international driver Manabu “MAX” Orido who has won several Super GT championships and D1 Grands Prix.

For a reveal at a large drifting event in Sydney, the Drift Syndicate team wanted to update their logo and expand the new design into a strong, vibrant and cohesive brand identity that started with the car wrap and could be scaled back for merchandise and media. Merchandise was designed and organised on a tight deadline so that it could be available at the reveal event. I also attended the event to film and photograph the team and their car throughout the competition for their online media.
Practical
Leading up to the reveal event, I completed several photo shoots with the newly wrapped car. I chose to use light painting in the photo shoots since it allowed a lot of flexibility for post processing, it also created a very dynamic look and added a quality to the lighting of the imagery that wouldn’t be possible to achieve with a single exposure. During the event I managed the operation of up to 6 slow motion cameras mounted to the interior and exterior of the car.
Digital
With input from the team, I created concept art for the new logo and car wrap. Once a design concept had been chosen, I finalised the artwork files for each panel of the car. These were based on constraints and recommendations provided by the sign writer that wrapped the car. Using the design files from the car wrap I created several variations of the logo with decreasing levels of detail, for different applications, such as web images, stickers, single and multi color screen prints.
